There’s a definite chill in the air, the leaves are changing colour and the nights are drawing in. Autumn has officially arrived! Separates
We’re a big fan of the new trend for bridal separates which are springing up in bridal boutiques everywhere and a great alternative to a traditional dress. Voluminous ballgown skirts can be paired with sheer tops, jackets and even sweaters to create a fashion forward bridal statement.
By choosing separates you can also easily create different looks to suit the different stages of the day. Maybe cover up in a shrug, jacket or sleeved top for your ceremony and then swap to a more party-like bodice or camisole to dance in.
Sleeves
Sleeved wedding dresses aren’t a new trend but at this time of year, they’re given a new lease of life as brides look to practical and stylish ways to keep warm.
A sheer lace sleeve looks stunning and whilst it may not offer much warmth, it is a stylish cover for your arms. For all out cosiness go for a cashmere sleeve and be bang on trend. For real drama, go for an extra long sleeve that delicately drapes beyond your wrist.
Pearls
This season we’ve seen a shift in the type of embellishment being used by wedding dress designers. For a number of years it was all about sparkly crystals and sequins but this season, the pearl is taking centre stage.
With a more subtle shimmer than the all-out bling of crystals, pearls create a more understated look. We love them added to sleeves and necklines to create a glorious low voltage sheen.
High Neck
We probably have to thank Pippa Middleton for raising the popularity of the high necked wedding dress after she championed the look at her wedding earlier this year. If you’re aiming for a demure, elegant and sophisticated look, this style of dress works perfectly when teamed with a short cap sleeve or a full-length arm.
There’s also a hidden benefit in the optical illusion that a high neck creates. By drawing the eye higher up the body you accentuate the waist and elongate the body which is no bad thing! And, with your neck area covered, forget wearing a necklace and instead opt for statement earrings.
Minimalism
Forget decadent lace, delicate embroidery and hundreds of thousands of beads – this season, designers are going back to basics with sleek, elegant gowns that focus on beautiful seams, stunning shapes and utterly divine, unembellished fabrics. The look is absolutely stunning in its simplicity and we think this could be the trend that runs and runs.
